Central Electro Chemical Research Institute is one of a chain of forty national laboratories under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi. During the last fifty years CECRI has been recognized as the premier institution for research and development in electrochemical science and technology not only in India but also in the South East Asia. The major programs at CSIR-CECRI are directed towards development of new processes or products or novel use of electrochemistry. Techniques, upgrading of the already developed technology, and basic research are carried out.

When it comes to protective anticorrosive coating of steel reinforcement there are mainly three different types of approaches have been made. They are metallic coatings for sacrificial protection, insulating type of coating based on epoxy/polymer and passivating type of coating based on cement.

Since the steel reinforcement in concrete is surrounded by an alkaline medium, a coating based on cement is expected to be more suitable, as the cement coating is a passivating type of coating and have higher tolerance towards defect.

Keeping both economy and efficiency in view, CSIR-CECRI Karaikudi has developed a complete 4 Step Coating System containing De-Rusting Solution, Phosphating Jelly, Alkaline Powder, Portland Cement Slurry based admixture with corrosion inhibitor called Inhibitor Solution (Truncated Inhibited Cement Slurry Coating) and Sealing Solution and we M/s CLEANFLO INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED is licensee for manufacturing & marketing of the same in the brand name of Cleanflo®.
